2024 |Bohemian Switzerland National Park| Czech Republic

In August 2024, during the OIIOOOI Residency, we visited the Böhmische Schweiz National Park in the Czech Republic, an area deeply impacted by a devastating wildfire in the summer of 2022. Through her lens, she documented the complex “worlds within worlds” emerging from the park’s restoration process, showcasing both human impact on Earth’s natural processes and nature’s enduring strength.

Silent woods endure,
Charred bark sheds in ashen winds—
Life breathes in darkness.

Inspired by a visit to the burned area of Bohemian Switzerland National Park in the Czech Republic, the bark of the trees, like skin, serves as a shield against natural crises, many of which are caused by human activity. The bark of the ponderosa pine is used as a conductive material, with parts covered in charcoal from burnt trees retrieved from the forest. Each line is connected to an Arduino pin that plays a tone based on the conductivity of the bio-materials.
